Family Photography is everything (not just for Christmas).
Documentary family photography, and why celebrating absolutely nothing at all, is everything.
I love a good family get-together… when everyone comes together, from near and far, cousins sizing up to see who has gotten tallest, the endless buffets of trifles, cheeses and sausage rolls, children taking it it turns to roll down the stairs in sleeping bags… or is this just my family? Quite possibly… But it doesn’t have to be a big event, a family meal, a day at the park, getting together to watch the football or simply sitting around having tea and biscuits can be just as memorable.
We’re so used to documenting the big events, gathering around the Christmas tree for photographs (please not the matching pyjamas), but what I love about the documentary approach is that I have the opportunity to capture your family as you really are - everyday. It doesn’t have to be tied to a big event because any time your family comes together, there’s always a story to be told.
So here’s to the quiet moments, the days of nothing, non-events and the downright ordinary. For these are the days that play a huge part in the story of our lives.
Here’s a short story from my own family, a quiet little day where we made absolutely no plans at all; cheerios for breakfast, ever-changing English weather, an injured rabbit and exploring the garden.
